How the whole process works
Chronological flow from decision to passport in hand. Realistically plan for 1–3 years total.
Use the eligibility calculator to determine your basis for applying. Gather all original documents and arrange translations with a certified Croatian interpreter.
2–8 weeksRequired via konzularniportal.mvep.hr – no walk-ins accepted. Kneza Miloša 82/I floor, Mon–Fri 9:00–13:00.
Wait: 2–6 weeksSubmit the complete set of documents. Consular fee (~139€) is paid upon submission. Track status at: crocons.beograd@mvep.hr
Wait: 14–24 monthsYou receive the decision and are entered in the Croatian Register of Citizens. Collect the domovnica at the consulate or any registry office in Croatia.
A few daysWith the domovnica (max 6 months), birth certificate, photos and paid fee (~74€), submit the passport application at the Belgrade consulate.
7 working daysPicked up in person at the consulate. Valid 10 years. Freedom of movement, work and residence in 27 EU countries. Serbian dual citizenship remains intact.
